Ghufron Minta Jabatan Pimpinan KPK Jadi 5 Tahun, Abraham Samad: Kemaruk!

Jakarta

Deputy Chairman of the Board KPK Nurul Ghufron submitted a judicial review of the KPK law to the Constitutional Court (MK) and requested to change the term of office of the party leadership from 4 years to 5 years. Former KPK chairman Abraham Samad strongly criticized Guvron’s move.

When contacted, on Tuesday (5/16/2023), Al-Samad said, “The lawsuit filed is more for his personal interest and not for the interest of the institution or the agenda of eliminating corruption. So this is more for the greed of power.”

He considered that the judicial review was Guvron’s attempt to extend his tenure at KPK. He suspects that this is also related to the minimum age for KPK leaders.

“Don’t blame people if anyone thinks that Govron deliberately wants to extend his term. Because if he is 5 years old, then next year he will be 50. If this year ends, he will only be 49 years old, so (extended) Until he turns 50 next year.”

For information, the KPK Law as a result of the 2019 amendment regulates the minimum age for KPK leaders to be 50 years old. Meanwhile, the old KPK law stipulated that the minimum age for KPK leaders should be 40 years.

Guvron himself is still 49 years old this year. He was elected as the leader of KPK in 2019 when he was 45 years old. The NPR itself stated that the KPK Law does not apply retroactively to Ghufron because Ghufron’s election had taken place prior to the ratification of the KPK Law.

Returning to Samad, he highlighted Govron’s reasons for comparing the term of the presidency of 12 other government institutions that was 5 years. According to him, this was Gufron’s argument only in facilitating personal interests in his judicial review.

“In my opinion, the argument used by Gufron only wants to strengthen his personal argument. In fact, it is only for his personal interests, but he assumes it. He forgot that KPK has a peculiarity as an institution. It is definitely different from other institutions. Why should it be forced.”

Abraham Samad hopes the court will reject Gufron’s proposed judicial review. And he considered that the judicial review is not related to the interests of the party or the eradication of corruption in Indonesia.

“In my opinion, what Guvron put forward is that if the MK really thinks progressively and only wants to save the eradication of corruption and the KPK institution, then a lawsuit like this should be dismissed,” he said.
