Indonesian People’s Advisory Council Vice-President Fazil Muhammed became an examiner for students of the Tourism Doctoral Program (S3) at Oddiyana University Bali, Ramang Hussain Dimolengo in a closed examination at the campus of Oddiyana University, Denpasar, Bali, on Monday (15/5). Fadil assessed that the research conducted for this thesis on Olele Marine Park, Gorontalo, was very comprehensive.
Fazil studied his thesis titled “Geotourism Development Based on Integrated Coastal Management in Ulleli Marine Park Area, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo” conducted by Ramang Hussain Demolengo.
Fazil said he once asked Rukhmin Dahuri (former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) in collaboration with the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) to develop integrated coastal management for the Ulleli Marine Park.
“They have been there for a long time. I can finally bring this Uele Marine Park up to the national level,” Fadel said in his statement, Tuesday (5/16/2023).
Fazil added that when he became governor of Gorontalo, he discovered the potential of Olele Marine Park. At that time Olele Marine Park was already called Gorontalo Coastal Park.
During the two terms, the governor of Gorontalo said, “I named it the Coastal Park of Gorontalo. What is our goal is to make the Olele Marine Park a geopark. To become a geopark is more difficult, but we’re getting there.”
Fadil also called Ulleli Marine Park a hidden paradise on the equator.
“This is because the beauty of the Olele Marine Park is the most beautiful marine park. Even the Olele Marine Park is more beautiful than Bunaken and Labuan Bajo,” Fadel said.
Marine biologists revealed, Fadel continued, that the most beautiful places under the sea are the places where the equator passes.
“If we look at it, Olele Marine Park crosses the equator. Marine biologists say the most beautiful place under water is when it crosses the equator. That’s also in Brazil and Peru,” said the MPR vice president. DPD group.
However, after he was no longer governor of Gorontalo, Fazil saw that the government was not very active in improving the facilities and infrastructure at Ulleli Marine Park.
“When I was governor, I banned fishing there. Ulleli Marine Park is a protected area,” Fadil said.
In the dissertation session, Fadil asked about the solution to one of the problems in Ulleli Marine Park, which is the problem of waste.
Fadel wondered, “What can be suggested to the local government to overcome this waste problem?”
As for his thesis, Ramang mentioned that the area of Olele Marine Park, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province is a potential tourist attraction that will be developed in the short and medium term. Olele’s underwater beauty potential in the form of the beauty of the coral reef ecosystem, various species of reef fish, is well known to the public and foreign tourists.
Ramang commented, “This potential needs special attention, especially because of its vulnerable properties. So one of the strategies that can be implemented is the development of sustainable tourism.”
