Parasite Director’s Next Film Gets a New Release Date

‘Parasite’ director Bong Joon-ho is ready with his next masterpiece, ‘Mickey 17’, as it gets a final release date. 

The director’s first film was appreciated worldwide and won Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards. Therefore, fans are incredibly excited about Mickey 17. Besides a renowned director, the film features a star-studded cast, including Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.

The film was initially slated to release on March 2024, but production delays forced the makers to switch to a different release date.

Per Warner Bros, Mickey 17 will now hit the theaters on January 31, 2025. The film will also be available on IMAX.

In the place of Mickey 17, Warner Bros. has decided to go for the release of the next Monsterverse blockbuster, ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.’

This makes sense because the upcoming release of ‘Dune: Part Two’ could’ve overshadowed Mickey 17 if it were to go forward with its March 2024 release. 

Mickey 17 is taken from Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel, but it doesn’t have the same pop-culture pull as Dune, adapted from Frank Herbert’s 1965 book.

For its new release date, Mickey 17 is poised to be a standout sci-fi spectacle and one of the early blockbusters of 2025. 

The only other film expected to release then is ‘Paddington in Peru,’ set for January 17. However, the film will focus on family themes and won’t clash with the darker science-fiction undertone of Mickey 17.

The plot follows Mickey Barnes (Pattinson), a dispensable worker on a mission to settle an icy world, facing death and regeneration repeatedly.

Moreover, the delayed release date will ensure that Mickey 17 gets enough time for the directors to ensure that it lives up to its lofty expectations. After the stellar success of ‘Parasite,’ the expectations from the director’s second film are off the roof.

Therefore, a little breathing space to even out the rough edges will ensure the end product is flawless.
