The deputy speaker of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly, Lestari Mordijat, said that involving youth in maintaining national unity is very important. According to him, this is able to bring about a strong foundation for development within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
In his letter, Lestari Mordijat said, “Our country was formed on the basis of agreements and ideas from the youth, which led to the birth of the Youth Pledge on October 28, 1928 which served as a prelude to the formation of the unified state of the Republic of Indonesia.” Statement, Tuesday (16/5/2023)
This was conveyed by the woman often called Rerie when she received visits from 275 students from the HighScope Indonesia High School Program (SMA) in the DPR/MPR Senayan Building, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (16/5).
Moreover, quoting the United Nations Youth Report, Riri revealed that there are currently 1.2 billion young people between the ages of 15 and 24. This figure represents 16% of the world’s population.
He added that based on the results of the National Socio-Economic Survey (Sunas) of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) as of March 2022, there were 68.82 million Indonesians in the youth category, accounting for 24% of the total. population.
According to him, with so many young people today, the spirit of achieving unity demonstrated by young people in the past must continue to ignite and be realized. Because he estimated that the fate of the nation and the state in the future would be determined by the youth.
On that occasion, Riri also encouraged the youth to get involved in politics. The goal is to change the image of politicians who are underestimated by society. Because according to him, if good people do not want to engage in politics, the world of politics will be full of people who cannot carry out their tasks.
“Keep the spirit to promote the reunified state of the Republic of Indonesia,” Riri said.
