An Overwatch 2 overhaul was coming, as revealed by data miners and leakers a month ago. With the advent of Season 9, there is a lot to look forward to.

Overwatch 2 has revealed Season 9: Champions, which revamps the competitive mode and introduces an eldritch horror-themed Battle Pass. There are also a few new in-game events and activities, including a Cowboy Bebop collaboration. All characters and their stats are being reworked with the latest update slated to go live on February 13th.

Kaedi, the community manager, has posted the patch notes on Blizzard’s official Overwatch 2 forum. The patch will go live on February 13th at 11 AM PST.

The most exciting changes to Competitive Play with a Skill Rank reset. Players will have ten placement matches to get their competitive rank. But in an unprecedented move in the FPS gaming segment, players will be able to view their predicted rank after each placement match.

Instead of 5 wins or 15 losses to get a competitive update, updates happen after every match, along with Modifiers being shown after every game. There is a new skill tier above Grandmaster called the Champion.

New match-making requirements and competitive points are handed out as 10 points for a win, 5 points for a draw, and 0 for a loss. There are also massive changes to the competitive progression, and Jade Weapon Variants are now given as competitive progression.

There are also Hero Updates, with almost every player being buffed in health, damage, and projectile speeds. “Almost” because the fan-favorite Pharah is getting a rework with a new Jet Dash on her alt fire. Her Hover Jets and Jump jets are redesigned to provide more Horizontal mobility instead of verticality.

A new nighttime lighting theme is seen in Junkertown alongside other changes to the map. The developers have noted adding more “cover structures” to block the long sightlines around the first checkpoint.

With a host of new bug fixes, developers Blizzard are looking to do away with the ill-reputation of Overwatch 2 that the title has been garnering for the past few months. This update hopes to fix the mistakes and give the players fresh air while playing Overwatch 2.

About Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.

Overwatch 2 is set to launch as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022. It will feature full cross-platform play.
