Tersangka TPPO di Myanmar Iming-imingi 25 WNI Gaji Rp 12 Juta

Bareskrim Polri has arrested two suspects Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) against 25 Indonesian Nationals (WNI) for Myanmar. In carrying out their actions, they both lure victims with high salaries and lucrative facilities.

The victims were initially enticed to work in Thailand, said Deirtepideum Pariskrim Poly Brigadier General Djuhandani Raharjo Boro. The offer was relayed by the actor through social media.

“The perpetrator recruited the victim with an offer to Thailand through relatives, friends or acquaintances, and then the victim,” Djohandani said in a press conference at the National Police headquarters on Tuesday (16/5/2023).

He said the victims in Thailand were promised they would work as marketing workers. The victims were offered salaries of tens of millions of rupees per month and lucrative facilities.

Not only that, but tens of millions of salaries that were initially promised were never received by the victims. Even worse, they often receive violent treatment.

“When the victims do not reach their goal, penalties will be imposed on them in the form of salary deductions, including acts and physical violence in the form of drying, jumping squats and others. Some are even subjected to beatings, electric shocks and imprisonment,” he said.

Djohandani stated that his party will continue to implement developments related to this issue. He said he did not rule out the possibility of naming other suspects.

“We believe that as before there was an investigation we said there are still other suspects. There are still other suspects or possible involvement that we are investigating,” he said.

For information, the victims have now been successfully evacuated and are located at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. The government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kimlu), is still awaiting the administrative process for the return of the 25 Indonesian nationals to Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the suspects have been charged under Article 4 of Law No. 21 of 2007 on Human Trafficking and/or Article 81 of Law No. 18 of 2017 on Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
