World Communication Day It is celebrated on May 17 every year. The purpose of the celebration is to raise awareness of the importance of communication in facing the challenges of the world in the digital age.

The celebration of International Telecommunications Day is also known as World Telecommunications Day (WTD). Here are the prose for World Communication Day 2023.

According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) website report, the theme for International Telecommunications Day 2023 is “Empowering Least Developed Countries through Information and Communication Technology” Which means “Empowering Underdeveloped Countries Through Information and Communication Technology”.

This theme calls on the entire public and private sectors regarding universal connectivity and digital transformation programs in underdeveloped countries through the Partner2Connect digital alliance.

In addition, the theme of International Telecommunications Day 2023 is also to support ITU’s program in developing communication and information in underdeveloped countries or least developed countries (LDCs).

Date of International Communication Day

Quoting the United Nations website, International Telecommunication Day has been observed every year on May 17 since 1969. This marked the founding of the International Telecommunication Union and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

In March 2006, the United Nations General Assembly declared World Information Society Day on May 17. Then, in November 2006, the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union or Plenipotentiary Conference of the Union In Antalya, Turkey, Communications Day and Information Society Day are celebrated on May 17 as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

The International Telecommunication Union is a special agency of the United Nations that deals with matters related to information and communication technology. In the beginning, the International Telecommunication Union was established with the name International Telegraph Union To help connect telegraph networks between countries.

Later, the International Telecommunication Union adopted the name ITU in 1934 due to its expanded responsibilities on radio and telephone. The ITU agreed with the United Nations to become a specialized agency of the United Nations system on November 15, 1947, which entered into force on January 1, 1949.

The International Telecommunication Union is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and its global membership includes 193 member states and nearly 900 international and regional organisations, companies and universities. Its work includes allocating global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, developing technical standards, and increasing access to information and communications technology for all disadvantaged communities.

In addition, the ITU works with radio amateurs, radio astronomy, broadband, wireless technology, and next-generation networks. So far, the International Telecommunication Union has played a role in the commemoration World Communication Day every year.
