Residents of Passinalo Village, Tanniwell District, West Ceram District (SBB), MalukuPolice arrested him, with his initials WH, after stockpiling an AK-47 firearm without a permit. He is currently being held by the Maluku Regional Police.
“The perpetrator has now been named a suspect and is being held at the Maluku Provincial Police Detention Center in Ambon,” said Maluku Police Criminal Investigation Director Combs Paul Andre Iskandar, Tuesday (16/5/2023).
WH was arrested at his home, on Wednesday (10/5) at 16.30 WW Indonesia. The 62-year-old was secured with a manual AK-47.
“The evidence we obtained is an AK-47 organic firearm, an AK-47 rifle magazine, 43 rounds of 7.62mm, and a gray backpack,” Andrey said.
WH was secured after police received reports from the public. The police immediately went to WH’s home.
“Upon arriving at the suspect’s home, members of the Maluku Regional Police Detreskrimum spoke with the suspect and found a bag containing 43 rounds of 7.62 mm caliber. A member then entered the kitchen and found an AK 47 organic firearm,” he said. .
After the AK-47 was found, the perpetrator was transferred to the Maluku Regional Police. Next, WH was questioned regarding stockpiling the AK-47.
“This firearm was controlled and used by the offender for three years from 2020 to 2023. He (WH) used it to hunt animals in the woods and used it 50 times, but whatever the reason, because this firearm is associated with ownership, of course he must have a permit “.
WH is charged with Article 1 Paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 12 of 1951, which carries the threat of capital punishment, life imprisonment, or temporary imprisonment up to a maximum of 20 years.
On the same occasion, Andrei pleaded with the people who still had weapons to hand them over to the police.
“If they are worried that they will be prosecuted under the law, the village administration can make it easier for the community to hand over weapons to the security forces. Because then we will not take any legal action,” he said.
Circulating information, the owner of the AK-47 is a member of the DPRD SBB. Police are still investigating the information.
“In the meantime, we are still developing ownership of these firearms. There have been several witnesses who have been questioned as to the provenance of the firearms, and tomorrow (Wednesday) we plan to request information from those involved (members of the SBB DPRD). A letter containing it has been sent. for inspection tomorrow.”
