A Jakarta national named Vetran Ruby Firdaus (39) was allegedly killed by two foreigners from India in Bali. Denpasar police said the cause of the killing was a misunderstanding.
“There was a misunderstanding between the victim and the perpetrator, as they often used offensive or insulting words in English,” Denpasar Police Chief Combis Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said at a press conference in Denpasar, Bali. betweenTuesday (16/5/2023).
The dispute occurred between the perpetrator and the victim when they were playing cards at the victim’s house in Tukad Bilok, Gang Banteng No. 3, Sanur Koh, South Denpasar District, Denpasar, Bali, Saturday (13/5).
Bambang Yogo explained that the perpetrators, namely Gurmej Singh (21 years old) and Ajaypal Singh (21 years old), also abused an Indian national named Rajesh Chin (40 years old).
When the residents found him, Rajesh Chin was sitting on the side of the road with his head tied with a piece of cloth and there was a lot of blood on his face.
Based on the results of the police investigation, the two perpetrators who entered Indonesia on tourist visitor visas confessed to having committed the murder of the victim, Vitran Firdaus.
However, the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit will reconstruct the murder to ascertain the chronology and roles of the two suspects.
“Both of them beat, but we will do the deep dive. Ostensibly, we will continue with the reconstruction; but this (the handle of the shovel) is one of the tools the perpetrator used to beat the victim to death,” said Bambang Yugo.
The perpetrators and victims, including survivors from India, met and became acquainted for the first time on Wednesday (10/5), when the perpetrators had just arrived in Bali via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
When they first met, the victim, Vetran Ruby, in good faith invited the two suspects to stay at his house. The two actors, who were setting foot in Bali for the first time, accepted the offer.
“Then this dispute occurred on Friday May 12, 2023 when they were playing cards at home. After a dispute occurred and culminated on Saturday May 13, the victim informed the perpetrator again. Then the perpetrator was upset about that. He abused him until she died,” Bambang Yugo said. (the victim)”.
After committing the murder, the perpetrators fled through the back door to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to flee to their country. Before fleeing to Ngurah Rai airport, the two book plane tickets through relatives in India.
After the two left the victim, the residents came to the victim’s house and found that the victim, Vetran Ruby, had died and Rajesh Shen had sustained a serious injury on his forehead.
Denpasar Police and Denpasar South Police, which received reports from residents, immediately went to the site and immediately conducted an investigation.
After examining several witnesses, Denpasar Police immediately coordinated with the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and Ngurah Rai Immigration Regional Police to check the whereabouts of the perpetrators.
Within two and a half hours, the perpetrators were arrested at the international departure hall of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and immediately taken to Denpasar Police for further interrogation.
The perpetrators were later named as suspects in the crime of murder or persecution that led to the death of the victim and persecution that resulted in serious injury, as referred to in Article 338 of the Penal Code or Article 351 Paragraph (3) of the Penal Code. And Article 351, paragraph (2), punishes 15 years in prison. The two suspects are now being held in Denpasar Police Detention Centre.
