2023 National Archives Day logo and philosophy

Download the 2023 National Archives Day logo here. As it is known, the city of Banyuwangi is hosting the celebration of the National Archives Day 2023.

Banyuwangi has a name made up of two Javanese words, banyu (water) and Wangi (perfume). This is consistent with the local legend that the scent of the river is evidence of Sri Tanjung’s loyalty to Prime Minister Siddubexo.

The 55th National Archives Day held in Banyuwangi uses visual identity in the form of figures bearing the impression of flowing water, and the pose of women dancing gandrong (typical Banyuwangi dance synonymous with fan).

In addition, the dynamic movement is meant to be authoritarian so that the archives always keep up with the times and continue to move dynamically towards a noble future to create an advanced bureaucracy, a national collective memory, and a superior civilization.

National Archives Day date

Reported by the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) website, the Government of Indonesia passed Law No. 7 of 1971 on Key Provisions for Archives on May 18, 1971. This was a turning point in the world of National Archives.

The law provides for the recognition of national archives and serves as a guide for archives in the development and management of national archives.

Law No. 7 of 1971 Concerning Basic Provisions for Archives signed in 2005 was revised and replaced by Law No. 43 of 2009 Concerning Archives.

Since 2005 based on the Decree of the President of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia No. OT.00/02/2005, Indonesia celebrates National Archives Day every year. May 18th is National Archives Day.

The National Archives Corporation has been established since January 28, 1892 during the reign of the Dutch East Indies. At that time they established a Landarchief who was responsible for maintaining the VOC archives and assisting with administrative and governmental matters.

During the Japanese occupation, the Landarchief changed his name to Koubunshokan. Many of the Dutch personnel who were part of the Landarchief were also placed in Japanese prisoner camps. At that time, the Dutch intervened at Koubunshokan because they still needed the archives to free themselves from Japanese captivity.

Legally, Indonesian archival institutions have existed since the Indonesian Declaration of Independence on August 17, 1945. After independence, the Landarchief Institution founded by the Dutch was taken over by the Indonesian government and placed in the Ministry of Education, Education and Culture under the name Country Archives.

That’s it National Archives Day 2023. Hope it is useful!
