General Crime Director (Dirtipidum) Poly Pariscream Brigadier General Djohandani Raharjo Boro revealed the modus operandi of the crime of human trafficking (advice) against 25 nationals of Indonesia (WNI) for Myanmar. The situation is such that the victims periodically leave.
Djohandani said the victims left periodically from September to November 2022. The victims left separately, with different numbers and days of departure.
“First, some were sent through Soetta Airport directly to Bangkok, some through the Malaysian entrance and then to Bangkok, and then some were taken through the side, and they did not go through the correct procedures to Myanmar,” he said at a press conference in London. Moreover, he said that the victims started leaving on September 25, 2022, one person from Batam to Johor, Malaysia by ship, then went to Hatyai, Thailand. Fly from Hatyai to Bangkok, and from Bangkok fly to Myawadi, Myanmar.
“Then on October 8 one person (left). Then on October 16 two people left. On October 22 two more people left. Then on October 23, November 6 and October 27 each of them 3 people left,” he explained.
He continued that upon arrival in Bangkok, the victims will be immediately arrested by the human trafficking syndicate and brought to Myanmar territory in a non-procedural manner through the border area in Mae Sot, Thailand.
“This is one way to deceive officers in the field, immigration officers and other officers,” Jihadani said.
Based on the results of the investigation, the victims were lured into Djohandani with a salary of 12-15 million rupees as a marketing employee. In addition, the victims were promised only 12 hours of work per day and could return to Indonesia once every 6 months.
However, the victims were mollified to convince the perpetrators to finally apply for the job. In fact, they are instead employed by an online scam company owned by Chinese nationals in Myawady, Myanmar.
“The victim was working for an internet scam company owned by Chinese nationals, and then she was locked up and guarded by armed men,” Djohandani explained.
For information, Bareskrim Polri arrested two TIP suspects, namely Andri Satria Nugraha and Anita Setia Dewi. The two were arrested on Tuesday evening (9/5), around 21.45 WIB in one of the rooms of Sayana Apartment, Harapan Indah, Tarumajaya, Bekasi, West Java.
The suspects were charged under Article 4 of Law No. 21 of 2007 on Human Trafficking and/or Article 81 of Law No. 18 of 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
