Bangkitkan Produk Unggulan Medan, Pemkot Gandeng USU Bangun Plaza UMKM

Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution said that the Medan (Bimkot) city government continues to make various efforts to revive economic activity, especially MSME players after the COVID-19 pandemic. One is to promote from the downstream, that is, the micro, small and medium enterprise sector as the country’s economic foundation.

This was conveyed by Bobi while attending an interactive dialogue with Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki in the Lecture Hall of North Sumatra University (USU), on Monday (15/5/2023).

“We believe we can compete with other regions in terms of creativity. However, we are still limited in access. Many of Medan’s children are highly creative and choose to leave Medan to be successful. I therefore ask the Minister of Cooperatives to help Medan,” Bobby said in a written statement on Monday (15 /5/2023) The city government regarding access and facilities is still limited.”

President Joko Widodo’s son-in-law explained that the Medan city government along with North Sumatra University (USU) will build UMKM Plaza to help improve the economy of MSMEs.

“We hope that all tenants from Medan and around Medan will not only make it a place to sell, but also form their own entrepreneurial spirit so that they can form a business ecosystem that can provide benefits to all levels of society,” said Bobby.

Meanwhile, Teten Masduki said Indonesia needs to prepare reliable entrepreneurs. He said that the percentage of entrepreneurship in developed countries has reached 12 percent.

“In addition to encouraging young or educated people to do business, so that our entrepreneurs can compete on the world stage,” Tetin said.

To become a developed country, Teten continued, it is not only important to prepare infrastructure and human resources, but also innovative entrepreneurs. So the government wants to create 1 million new young entrepreneurs.

“Moreover, President Joko Widodo wants to prepare the foundation for Indonesia, which will become the four major powers after the United States, China and India,” Tetin continued.

This interactive dialogue was also attended by the Head of Entrepreneurship at the National Council of Crafts (Dekranas) Endang Budi Karya and his staff, the Deputy for Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Siti Azizah, Vice Chancellor of USU Eddy Ehsan, and academics from USU.
