Leader TNI Admiral Yudo Margono of the Indonesian National Army said the four workers for the project Base transceiver station (BTS) PT Inti Bangun Sejahtera (IBS) in Okbab, Gunung Bintang Regency, Highlands Papua, was not taken hostage by the Papua Armed Criminal Group (KKB). He said the problem was caused by a debt issue.
“It wasn’t about taking hostages. Yesterday there might have been debts that were not paid at the time BTS was installed, people demanded that they pay it first, so after paying it, they will be released,” said Yudo as reported by Antara. betweenMonday (5/15/2023).
Yudo asked all parties not to directly associate each event as a KKB action. He suspects that the problems with the four BTS workers are caused by debt affairs with the residents.
“It’s not KKB that does that, but people who may have been employed before or something, maybe they didn’t get paid enough or something. So you don’t make everything equal, everyone is held hostage, no, it’s Not hostages,” he said.
But he stressed that the perpetrators will continue to be pursued by the police. He said this was done because there were injured victims.
“Not (KKB), but yes of course because someone was injured yesterday, the police will later arrest the person who was injured earlier,” Yodo said.
Earlier, Gunung Bintang AKBP Police Chief Mohamad Davey Bastoumi stated that four PT IBS workers were rescued and evacuated from Okbab to Oksibil on Monday.
The evacuation was led by Chief of Police Gunung Bintang with Kartens Peace Operations Task Force Deputy Combis Joko Sollisteo and involved about 50 combined personnel from Bamtas Statis RI-PNG UNIF 143/TWEJ, Gunung Bintang Police and Kartens Peace Operations Task Force 2023.
“The four employees were selected using Tariku Aviation’s PK-RBP aircraft,” Bastoumi said.
